On Wednesday, October 5, 2022, Sumeria hosted Mr. Douglas Ollivant, Senior fellow at New America Foundation, to talk about “Iraq-US Relations: An Economic Narrative”. Mr. Olivant talked about the main problems that affect the Iraqi economy, and represent obstacles to the progress of Iraq’s international economic relations in general, and with the US in particular, the most important of which are corruption and the huge bureaucracy. Mr. Ollivant indicated that there is a desire by American companies to work in Iraq, but they face many obstacles, some of which are security, and many of them are related to the business environment in the country. Therefore, he believes that the two most important steps that the next government should take directly are to find more facilities to attract foreign companies, and to allocate more money to invest in infrastructure.
